Dub FX @ SO36
Berlin 19/07/14

It was so hot this day but this gig was even more hottter than the weather today.

Tired in the afternoon I slept until 7 pm and I was than in hurry to get there just in time. It was short before 8 pm when I arrived at SO36. After a quick get in I ordered first a big beer (Kristallweizen) and than went to the front of the stage - line 7 or 8. Music - drum and bass was playing in the background, sweating in the almost full concert hall. We had to wait until 8:15 pm before they were coming on stage - Cade on guitar, Andy V. on the keyboards and saxophone and Mr. Dub FX.

KRS-One @ Yaam Club / Berlin 11/06/14

It was Monday when I noticed that KRS-One would be in town on Wednesday. First thought "Why always on Wednesdays - I will miss once again my Volleyball-training" but than I saw it would start at 10 pm so there might be enough time to manage both.

We stopped our training at 9:50 pm - as always - and a quarter after 10 pm I entered the Yaam area which is located near the "Ostbahnhof" of Berlin directly at the Spree-river - never was there before.

Peter Gabriel @ Waldbuehne - Berlin(DE)

Peter Gabriel @Waldbuehne / Berlin

Already in November last year I ordered two tickets via the German Genesis Fanclub so there was nothing more to do than to wait for the Big Time - knowing that also Petra and Sven would be there.

We tried to manage where to meet at the Waldbuehne but when we arrived there - the car was almost 1 km away - we knew that the other both would come 40 min. later so my wife and I went in and tried to find a good place which was found after some more minutes on the middle left blocks with a good view to the stage and video installation.

Petra and Sven arrived early enough to take their seats, have something to drink and a lot of fun talking. We didn't expect that it would start 45 min later than scheduled.

When Peter Gabriel entered the stage alone - the audience was enthustiastic. He announced in German (all of his announcements were in German) that the show will now begin and it is seperated in 3 parts like a menu. Starter, main menu and the desert with all the So-song hits.

The first 3 songs were performed by two swedish female artists (Jennie Abrahamson & Linnea Olsson), singing and playing cello and guitar as I remember right. They also were the Background singers for the rest of the Show.

After this it took some more 15 min before the main program of PG started. In between the stage was cleaned with a brush by a man looking like PG but I am not really sure he was.

First PG introduced the band members - orginal team of the SO-Tour in 1986 - and than they started to play.

The first part was an accoustic set of three songs which ended with Shock the monkey. Than came the second part (visible on the video wall) - the electric part. It was getting darker and the lightshow took more effect. Highlight of this part was Solsbury Hill where a lot of the audience were standing up with rhythmic clapping. Than he was sitting again on the piano and introduced a new song (Why Don't You Show Yourself) which was the end of the second part.

It was already 10 pm and I knew we had to update the renting time of our car - so I managed it and updated it to 12 pm.

The first song of the third part was Red Rain and also all video installations changed from black/white to colored lights (at this song almost red) followed by Sledgehammer - all people stand up - and all the other hits of the So-record (see setlist below). The last song was In your eyes and all the band members bowed before the audience and left the stage.

But they came back.

Once again PG sat on the piano and played Here Comes the Flood - but with German lyrics. The last song of this show was Biko where all the audience fall in to the refrain and in the end one after one of the band members left the stage. That was it. What a night it was.

It was already after 11pm and we had to hurry to bring the car back in time.

Here is the Setlist

Part 1 - Acoustic
1. OBUT
2. Come Talk to Me
3. Shock the Monkey

Part 2 - Electric

Little Spencer @ Fincan - Berlin(DE)

Little Spencer @Fincan / Berlin

Some days before this gig of "Little Spencer" I realized that "The Sunpilots" were back again in Berlin and that they also will come to the location. So I would see Raj again and the two new guys (Adil and Kay).

I was there 1/2 n hour later than schedule plan said, they already began - it was in an extra room of the Fincan. I went in there, everyone was listening thoughtfully - I saw Raj sitting in the first line. Bob recognized me after some seconds and smiled into my direction.

They made a short break and I talked with all of them about the good old times and what will come in the future (US-Tour).

They played some more songs so it was almost 11pm when I went back to the underground.

Little Spencer @Cosmic Kaspar / Berlin

Since Justin Cool left "The Sunpilots" it became silent around the band - they got a new bass player from Vienna and played some gigs elesewhere. Also Raj and Tom were going back to Australia.

So I was surprized that Bob was still living in Berlin and was doing some other projects. One of his projects was called "Little Spencer" - a guitar duo which played own accoustic songs or some cover versions.

Bob invited me via Facebook to come to one of his gigs here in Berlin so I promised to come this day.

Defunkt @ Quasimodo - Berlin(DE)

DEFUNKT back @Quasimodo

"Back in the 80th - what a time it was" was the opening words of Joseph Bowie - frontman of DEFUNKT - at the gig in Dortmund 2007. This night - it was almost the same.

Months before I realized that I have missed them in March when they were playing in Berlin - so this time I didn't want to miss them.

I told my wife about their gig and she was happy to come with me.

The gig should start at 10 pm at the Quasimodo so we decided to take the car for it. We got a nearby parking place and when we entered the Quasimodo it still was music from the mixer. After ordering some drinks and having a good place to stay and sit they came out for the show.

Die Ärzte @ Flughafen Tempelhof - Berlin(DE)

Die Ärzte @Flughafen Tempelhof / Berlin

During our Finland vacation I asked my Family who liked to see "Die Aerzte" on Tempelhofer Feld near our house. No one except my daughter would like to go with me - she would rather see "Seeed" but "Aertze" were also ok for her, she said. So I ordered only two tickets for this event.

It was a three day event from Friday to Sunday - two of Germanys best known Punk-Rock Bands "Die Toten Hosen" and "Die Aertze" were playing every evening alternately. We saw them on Saturday.

The Tall Ships Races 2013 / Helsinki

Highlight of our 4 weeks summer vacation in Finland was "The Tall Ships Races" in Helsinki - the whole harbour which is near the apartment of my parents in law was full of big and small sailing ships and around the ships there were some stages where local known artists have there appearance.

Jussi - my wife's brother and also a musician - told us to which of the artists we should go and he would accompany us.

Groundation @C-Club / Berlin

Already in March Michael Ver Steegt - SoundEngineer - told me that Groundation will come once again to the C-Club in May with him inclusive. So I asked him to put me on the guestlist - everything should be alright.

But I was very late - family came back from their Ireland vacation and I had to take them. Anyway, I was on the guestlist, I entered the C-Club and saw Michael very busy so I decided to take a drink first and than to say hello to him.

The Tiger Lillies @Tipi am Kanzleramt / Berlin

Some weeks before Judit from The Netherlands asked me if I would like to accompany her to the Tiger Lillies at the Tipi. I was looking some youtube videos of them and well I thought this could be interesting. So I ordered two tickets for us.

We met some hours before at our home talked a little bit about children, friends and politics and left 1 hour later to arrive at the Tipi in time.
