Michael Franti Will Return to the Road Following Weekend Cancellations
by Mike Greenhaus
Michael Franti is expected to return to the road this weekend, following a series of weekend cancellations. The singer/guitarist cancelled a string of shows this weekend, including appearances at the Wanderlust and Calgary Folk Festivals after suffering from abdominal pain. Franti is expecting his doctor's clearance to return to the road in time for his Friday, July 31 performance in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
A note on Franti's webpage explains the following:
The last six weeks of touring I have been suffering from abdominal pain. It finally got to the point where I was spending the entire day in bed only getting up to practice yoga and perform. While on tour I underwent numerous tests and procedures to get to the root of the problem. It was finally revealed by cat scan, that I had been living and performing with a ruptured appendix which needed to be removed immediately. Thursday night doctors operated on me at cedar sinai in Los Angeles removing the appendix as well as a large absess that formed around the appendix. Because the appendix and absess were very large requiring a long incision and the infection spread over the entire abdominal area, the doctors are expecting a longer recovery time than normal.
I've been looking forward to wanderlust all year, not just to be there as a performer, but as a participant. The teachers, healers, and amazing beauty of the sierra mountains promise to make wanderlust an inspiring annual event, but I was most looking forward to being around thousands of fellow wanderers who were coming from all over the world, seeking new growth in their own lives and peace and prosperity for the whole planet. I look forward to being at wanderlust next year and thank everyone for your well wishes and prayers.
P.S. Even with four incisions and many stitches its still possible to work badakanassana in a hospital bed!
Keep smiling. Michael Franti
