You just hang in there, be well and *take your time like you pay your rent* . Like my boss would say. I can't wait till the end of the month to talk to Michael and the band again to find out what's happening with the band.[/b:6b74b99bf4]

Hy Earle,
You're asking a difficult question. This song as I told you is one of my favs for all times and it is very emotionally for me when I hear this song. For me this song explained all kinds of violence in mankind's history with this example of personal destiny. "Mob mentality" - you have it everywhere. Look at hooligans, soccer fans (problem here in EU), soldiers, nazis, etc... "Mob mentality" looks like we have it in our genes. Remember when apes killed another ape and they are bevaving crazy, insane ("blood thurst") until the other is dead. We do the same. "You won't see the face 'til the eyelids drop. You won't hear the screaming until it stops" We have it in our genes but you always need a lighter to switch on the violence in us, e.g. adults which rape children and destroy a life. I believe that a great part of our violence potential is related to our education. Parents are our leaders and maybe idols for many years and if there went something wrong in the relationship, you can't heal it anymore.
I don't know much about Michael's first years and youth but maybe he also described here a part of his own life. Maybe he was a part of a gang which was violent - behaving like described in the song or he was the outsider surrounded by white young people (read this article - very good). I can remember a posting some years ago where someone from Oakland said: "Michael don't forget where are you coming from." Even in the years of DHOH he was not on the side of the peacemakers. He wanted to change the whole world in an aggressive way. "I used to want my music to get out there and save the whole world. And now I just feel like I'd really like it if my music meant something to a few people."
Back to leaders in our life: Leaders know how to manipulate people. You have these leaders in politics and religion. - "They reap what they sow" - fear brings fear. So the main statement here "... dehumanizing the victim makes things simpler ..." give us a picture of an enemy, which is easier to destroy if you make an object out of the people. As long as they fuel the fire with oil most of the people will follow the plan because they didn't know it better - they are believing in the words they hear (read) and the pictures they saw on TV. So it is up to us to change this picture of violence. "Television, the drug of the nation", "Language of violence" show us the actual status but don't give us aspects for the future what we can change.
I know where I am stand: I am on the side of the peacemakers - whereever it starts. Begin with our children - teach them peace and love them and you get what you sow.
1Love Joerg
