Brighton’s Canned Pineapple are teasing their new EP ‘Big Break’, set for release on 21st March, with new single ‘Elvis’.
The track, produced by Tom Rees (Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard, The Bug Club, Panic Shack), showcases the band’s power-pop sound, blending fuzzy guitars with psychedelic and doo-wop elements.
“‘Elvis’ was written as a sort of sequel to one of our collective favourite songs ‘Alison’ by Elvis Costello; a song about Costello running into an ex-lover and having a new husband,” the band share. “We thought it was funny the idea of Seán being Alison’s new husband as sometimes he gets comments about looking like Costello with the glasses and suit y’know. Maybe Alison is only married to Seán because she never got over Costello. Poor Seán but… Who could blame her!”
Speaking about the EP, they add: “‘Big Break’ is our tongue in cheek exploration of the idea that a band can ‘make it’ in the modern world and whether or not it’s just a fallacy exclusive to being printed in history. We’re approaching the start to our fourth year as a band and the last three have been a total rollercoaster. With extreme highs and lows, ‘Big Break’ highlights a culmination of experiences we’ve had as a band, as housemates and as brothers, growing into adults together while in each other’s pockets as well as the pursuit for something bigger. We give you another six: party people, sing all night, run on the ceiling rock tunes and It’s our proudest, most honest work yet. We hope it resonates with you as much as it does for us.”
The band, consisting of vocalist Seán Drury, guitarist Oakley Gardiner, God of Love Gabe Rice, and drummer Charlie Pringle, have recently performed with LCD Soundsystem, The National, and The Last Dinner Party.
