Thomas Carlsen’s Transmission, the Norwegian, Melodic Power Metal solo project that released the much acclaimed “A Brave Horizon” (RFL Entertainment 2023) breaks the silence and drops a surprise single, “Midnight Queen.” The single is the first piece of new music from multi-instrumentalist, Thomas Carlsen in nearly a year and a half. The song drops on New Year’s Eve and ushers in the new-year with a bang; just a small dose of what’s to come in 2025. The song is a writing collaboration between Thomas Carlsen and his dad, Pål, and is one that is close to Carlsen’s heart. This up-beat rocker takes you back to 1989, but offers up a modern twist. The song needed a powerful vocal punch, so Carlsen invited Peruvian singer Sebastian Palma, who performed two tracks on his latest full-length, to sing on the new single. The result speaks for itself; this synth/guitar-driven tune is as catchy as it is nostalgic.
Carlsen touches on the new single: “Midnight Queen” is my holiday gift to those who are patiently waiting for the next Transmission record. It started as a couple of riff ideas that my Dad had come up with and I just took off from there. This song perfectly sums up where my writing is going; Melodic, heavy, full of layers and big hooks.”
The next Transmission album has yet to be announced, but according to Carlsen, it is in its final mixing and mastering stage and slated for a 2025 release.
Thomas Carlsen is a Multi-Instrumentalist, songwriter and engineer who impacted the scene in 2022 with the much talked about, debut EP, “Redemption.” The EP was followed up in 2023 with the highly-acclaimed, full-length album, “A Brave Horizon.” That album fully integrated Carlsen into the Metal scene and introduced the masses to the masterful work of one of metal’s up and coming virtuoso’s.
The solo project, Transmission, is inspired by bands such as Iron Maiden, Judas Priest and Dokken. The music is rooted in the 80’s style of hard rock and heavy metal. Carlsen is the sole songwriter and performs all instruments on the Transmission project.
