LA ska-punk crew Year of The Dragon have unveiled new single “Lucifinger.”
Led by Dirty Walt and Flyin’ Jay, formerly of legendary ska band Fishbone, the red-hot rockers bring a blistering sonic assault with chunky basslines and lyrical wizardry making the new track a thunderously moreish prospect.
Sonic tour de force Year of The Dragon hone an eclectic, groove-laced soundscape, with influences from across ska, heavy and reggae shining through on the band’s 2019 full-length, Take Control.
If Year of The Dragon aren’t already in your lexicon, then iconic ska-punk crew Fishbone might well be. The band shot to attention in the 80s with a series of seminal major label releases, splaying punk with funk-metal, and breaking through as one of the pre-eminent genre benders with albums like Truth & Soul and The Reality of My Surroundings perforating the mainstream.
Year of The Dragon haven’t merely clung to the coattails of their members’ former glory however. The five have carved their own path, touring nationally and sharing the stage with Red Hot Chili Peppers, Bad Brains, and Hatebreed. Indeed, Year of The Dragon have become synonymous with a scintillating live show, melting faces and scorching stages along the way.
Following their signing to Manic Kat Records, new single “Lucifinger” marks the beginning of the group’s next chapter. Funky nu-metal guitars and potent percussion are set behind the pioneering one-two punch of Jay and Walt, as Year of The Dragon deftly boil their melting pot of influences into their infectious new track.
