Following on from the summer single ‘Dirty Tricks’, ALKY releases ‘All Because of Love’.
ALKY (real name Barry Reid) is an indie-rock artist from Dublin, Ireland. Unlike many artists who dive into their careers early, ALKY’s path to becoming a solo artist was more gradual. Initially more comfortable as a lead guitarist than a singer in his local Dublin band during the late 1990s, he soon ventured into a career in audio engineering. In 2018 his exceptional work as a sound mixer earned him an Emmy nomination on a high-profile animated TV series for Amazon Prime featuring the music of Elvis Costello.
It wasn’t until many years later that ALKY returned to songwriting with a renewed focus as an artist in his own right, emerging from behind the mixing desk to take centre stage with his debut single, “Dirty Tricks” in 2024. Blending high-tempo, uplifting rock with darker, introspective lyrics, ALKY’s music is a tapestry woven from the threads of his diverse influences. From the angst-driven rock of Nirvana and The Smashing Pumpkins to the atmospheric depth of The National and Arcade Fire, his sound is both a tribute to and a reinvention of these iconic styles.
‘Inspired by bands such as U2 and The Killers, “All Because of Love” blends upbeat, anthemic rock with themes of melancholy and heartache. While musically quite joyous, lyrically the song deals with loss and frustration surrounding the end of a relationship’ (ALKY)
