Common and Pete Rock pay homage to to two dearly departed friends in their video for “Dreamin'”: J Dilla and De La Soul‘s Trugoy The Dove.

Off their joint LP The Auditorium Vol. 1, the Raven Jackson-directed “Dreamin'” takes fans through memory lane with home video footage Common has recorded throughout the years.

At one point in the clip, he shows the late Dilla cooking up in the studio as he raps, “I was hearing melodies and rhythms through the night/ This was a dream that felt real, like a fight/ What made it real was J Dilla was there in the light!

He later references Trugoy as he holds up a photo of the late MC.

Seen Trugoy The Dove, he began to fly/ Told him, Pos and Mase, De La will never die!

Common recently spoke about what the album means to him ahead of its release.

“For me, this all started with A Dream,” he wrote on Instagram. “A Dream to let the world know I’ve been here. A dream to be a part of Hip Hop. A Dream to MC at a level where De La SoulA Tribe Called QuestKRS-One and Ice Cube knew who I was. It’s been a dream of mine to work with the LEGENDARY @realpeterock (on more than just one song). I’ve been Dreamin’ my whole life.

I am super geeked and supremely grateful to announce our New Album – The Auditorium Vol. 1 dropping July 12. I have to say, the love you all have been showing has been INCREDIBLE. And know, anytime someone says they are ‘looking forward to that album you are doing with Pete Rock’ – It just makes me happy to be a part of this art form.”

He added: “We pray and hope that this music will move your spirit and be with you for the rest of your life. Thanks to all who helped make it happen and to all of you for the Supreme Love. GOD Bless.”

The Chicago rap legend has also hailed The Auditorium Vol. 1 as some of his best work yet.

Speaking on a MusiCares panel earlier this year, he said: “Y’all gon’ think I’m just talking, but this new Pete Rock joint. I’ma see y’all when I come back, whenever I’m back, and y’all can tell me if I’m bullshittin’ or not.

“It’s in my top [three]. I’ve had a couple people coming in saying, ‘Yo, this is one of your best albums.’ So I’m excited about it.”
