South Carolina native Taylor McCall today (February 2nd) releases his new album 'Mellow War.' The album evokes a tender soul wise beyond his years. He effortlessly channels a spellbinding and unique mix of blues-fuelled Americana, with a depth of character and voice that transcends his age
Mellow War follows the release of 2021's highly praised 'Black Powder Soul' and is a homage to McCall's late grandfather who features on the album's cover and whose input on McCall is invaluable. His first memory of music comes from his grandfather's guitar that was stashed under the bed and was later gifted to him. "The smell of its age I can still remember to this day." You can also hear his grandfather opening the album and singing a gospel on 'Sinking Sand'.
Most recent single, 'Tide of Love' followed the emotional release of 'Rest On Easy,' a tender tribute to lost loved ones, and the title track 'Mellow War,' which set the tone for the new album. The latter perfectly showcases McCall's spellbinding and unique fusion of blues-fuelled Americana. Watch the video McCall directed for 'Mellow War' below:
"Mellow War pays homage to my late grandpa. My grandpa went to Vietnam. The album cover is him in Vietnam. The video for this song is from the war in Vietnam. These are songs that are sort of letters to home that I imagined he might have sent. My grandpa was a life inspiration for me; it was bigger than just music. The songs are a tribute to everything he stood for and everything he taught me. It's a way for me to share with him even when he's in another dimension. This isn't just about me or myself," shares Taylor McCall.
Mellow War is McCall's second album, following his highly acclaimed debut, Black Powder Soul, in 2021. Produced by McCall and Sean McConnell (Michael Franti and Wade Bowen), the album showcases a real picture of Taylor's grandfather as a young man on the cover. Mellow War will also be released as a deluxe CD plus an extra early material CD and on vinyl here with additional items available at the official store.
Having built a strong fanbase since discovering his voice in his late teens, Taylor McCall, an avid outdoorsman and fisherman from South Carolina, has crafted a sound that effortlessly matches his unique musicianship with his powerful and resonating voice. Mellow War is a testament to McCall's depth of character that transcends his age, showcasing a soul beyond his years.
