L.S. Dunes, one of Kill Your Stereo's favourite supergroups, is back with their second standalone song of 2023, Old Wounds.
In case you missed it: L.S. Dunes is vocalist Anthony Green (Circa Survive), My Chemical Romance's Frank Iero on guitar, Thursday's drummer Tucker Rule and bassist Tim Payne and Coheed & Cambria guitarist Travis Stever.
Earlier this year, Kill Your Stereo caught up with Iero to talk about forming a new band and starting fresh with L.S. Dunes and their essential debut album, Past Lives. You can read the interview here.
Old Wounds is a tender offering from the group, with the guitarists noodling away beautifully, Green's vocals just floating over the instrumentals as the band constructs a stunning ballad. You can listen to the single below.
The new track follows the previously released banger, Benadryl Subreddit, which the band dropped two months ago. Both songs were recorded in April at Rancho De La Luna studio in Joshua Tree, California, with producer Alex Newport (The Mars Volta, Frank Turner, City & Colour).
This week, L.S. Dunes also dropped the second part of their behind-the-scenes documentary, Limitless Sky, both of which you can watch below.
Green commented about the group's new single in a press release, "Old Wounds was inspired by something I thought that I had lost that I actually needed to let go of," while Iero added, "Old Wounds was a song that Travis brought to the band a while back.
"In getting ready for the upcoming desert session, Anthony came back around to it and ended up singing an incredible melody over it. After hearing Anthony's voice on that song, it was pretty obvious what needed to be played over those existing melodies," he continued. "Old Wounds definitely feels like it represents the cold nights out in the desert for me, and it might be one of my favourite songs we have done as a band."
Stevers continued, "The way everyone drifted into this song and brought their own energy was one of the most organic and natural approaches to songwriting I have ever been a part of.
"From the initial instrumental ideas to the vocals, Anthony added, all the way to the production, it just flowed. Like we had a road map for where the song would go already. The feelings it derives from me, and the continued layers make it possibly my favourite song I have ever been a part of writing."
