The "Classic Man" has found the right woman. Jidenna is in love, and he's using his music as the vessel to share the news and his feels on his forthcoming third album entitled ME YOU & GOD. We've already gotten a taste of the set and the direction that love has taken him with the singles "BLUSH" and "SAFE," and now Jidenna has announced that the LP is scheduled to be released on Friday, May 5th.
He took to Instagram to reveal the album title, cover art and release date in a video, and he had a few other things to get off of his bare chest. "The last couple of years have been dreamy, and I don't know if I'm ready to wake up," Jidenna began his voice-over narration while he stared into the camera and a languid instrumental played in the background.
"I began every song during magic hour and finished it after I loved you back to sleep," he continued. "The days were simple. The time was slow. The streets were empty aside from the daily clash of rebels and police. Nowadays it feels like the Mandela Effect. Did the pandemic really happen? Did it shift something in us or were we just tripping? Well, we were definitely tripping. And love is of hell of a road trip."
Jidenna found love in a hopeless place and fondly reminisced about the time he and his beloved had together. "We'll never get those days back, but I captured a few moments in this time capsule," he went on. "I miss those days before the world opened back up, when it was just me, you and God," he said, cleverly ending his narration with the album title.
ME YOU & GOD is described as "a man falling in love and learning that he must reckon with how he has been socialized to understand masculinity in order to navigate these new, intoxicating feelings." The album features 13 tracks and features from Bootsy Collins (on the aforementioned "SAFE"), co-executive producer Roman GianArthur, Sensei Bueno and Gardens & Villa.
ME YOU & GOD's release date is a day after Jidenna's birthday, but he's giving fans an early gift in the form of early access to the album on the EVEN platform.
