Sun's Signature (Elizabeth Fraser and Damon Reece) Share Stunning Single "Golden Air"
The single off the upcoming EP from the former Cocteau Twins vocalist and Massive Attack touring drummer features former Genesis guitarist Steve Hackett.
A couple months ago, it was announced that Cocteau Twins singer Elizabeth Fraser would share her first new music in 13 years for a project with her partner, Massive Attack touring drummer Damon Reece, as Sun's Signature. The duo has a five-track EP coming out on June 18 via Partisan Records. Today, they've shared the single "Golden Air." Apart from Fraser's striking, otherworldly vocals, the track features guitar from Steve Hackett. Fascinated by his work on Genesis' 1974 concept album The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway, the duo recruited his "wisdom and experience" for a handful of tracks on the EP.
Sun's Signature resulted from ANOHNI's 2012 invitation to the Meltdown Festival at the Royal Festival Hall, which is where the duo ended up debuting songs. "ANOHNI has a way of making you believe you can do it," Fraser recalled, despite being incredibly nervous at the event. She later admitted that "[she was] shitting kittens at the prospect of making an audience [of close to 6,000 people] sit through 10 songs they had never heard before." Fraser noted her voice's evolution as result of time: "I'm enjoying getting older and the changes that age has brought to my voice."
You can hear the beauty of her higher register below, and be on the lookout for the physical release of the duo's EP on June 18 for Record Store Day.
