While his band Thievery Corporation takes an unexpected but much-needed break due to the COVID-19 pandemic from 25 consecutive years of touring, Rob Garza releases today a special remix of his track "Deep Blue (Riviera Mix)" under his solo moniker GARZA. The original track is taken from his successful debut EP Where The Moon Hideswhich was released November 2019.
"A perfect soundtrack to the imaginary summer we never had, 'Deep Blue (Riviera Mix)' features a summertime housey, loungey vibe perfect for pools, beaches or summer mix tapes," Garza says. "Featuring vocals by Seann Bowe, this mix encapsulates the sun, the water and summer nostalgia."
"Deep Blue (Riviera Mix)" exudes a smooth bossa nova tropical vibe that flows from the track effortlessly. Earmilk says of the track, "once that deep bass hits alongside a catchy finger-snapping chorus, it's impossible not to get weak at the knees and fall completely in love." Elicit Magazine calls it "a delicate balance of rhythm, texture and melody. [Garza] manages to push musical boundaries while still remaining wholly accessible." Its accompanying video features tranquil scenes of the Amazon, the ebb and flow of the ocean currents, and other equatorial imagery that perfectly matches the song's summery and breezy club rhythms.
In addition to the remix, Garza has been busy this Summer on numerous fronts. Aside from spending much needed time with his son and his family, he has been planning various DJ live streams on Yoga-based virtual platform Livekick (www.livekick.com) for its super high energy "Amplified Yoga" class, including an upcoming special set on August 30th to celebrate Burning Man. He is also releasing a curated playlist in conjunction with hotel/venue Surf Lodge in NY's The Hamptons.
His crowning achievement however is the launch of his own label Magnetic Moon (https://www.magneticmoon.com/) which will feature not only his own solo material but also an eclectic array of artists signed to the label. Garza says excitedly, "We have some amazing new music from ToBy and Racquel Jones (from Thievery fame). Both of these artists are fire." Introspective rapper ToBy released his debut EP The Outside earlier this Summer and has been critically hailed. Under the Radar praised, "His smooth flow and the sunburnt trap beats set the backdrop for stories that range from reflections on Egyptian mythology to the tolls of excess and meditations on mortality." Ladygunn says, "His music is skillfully rhythmic and tactically melodic, as each song integrates a new level of dynamicality and variety, with aspects of lofi beats, rap, and hip-hop." In addition, GARZA is gearing up for the release of a second solo EP which will feature songs with Emeline, Seann Bowe, Yesac, Racquel Jones and Calica.
Looking forward as best he can in these uncertain times, Garza adds warmly, "Be safe and I can't wait till things open up and we all can dance together."
