Bursting out of your speakers like an air-raid siren, Roots Manuva and Doug Wimbish's new collaboration "Spit Bits" owes as much to punk's rebellious attitude as it does to rap. Roots Manuva is on fine form, sounding more level-headed than ever as he issues his rallying cry to the masses. It's ideal territory for the UK rap veteran, but the distorted guitars and red-raw noise of Doug Wimbish's production puts him into an entirely new setting - but one he seems more than comfortable with. Could we see Manuva fronting his own punk band? Stranger things have happened.
The new collab comes fresh from the upcoming Pay It All Back Volume 7 compilation from Adrian Sherwood's On-U Sound, which includes exclusive collaborations, remixes, dubs, forgotten gems and more from Coldcut, Lee "Scratch" Perry, Horace Andy and more. Look out for that when it drops March 29.
