Bands showing the love with free tickets to John Butler Trio gig for fire-affected locals
by Carly Gooch
The John Butler Trio are playing in Nelson alongside Fly My Pretties, L.A.B and Trinity Roots. |
John Butler may be from across the ditch, but it doesn't mean his band, John Butler Trio, isn't sympathetic to the Nelson fire that affected hundreds in the region.
The Australian band is heading to Nelson next month, supported by Kiwi bands, Fly My Pretties, Trinity Roots and L.A.B. and they're giving away 50 double passes to locals affected by the blaze.
Fly My Pretties band leader, Barnaby Weir, said New Zealanders had been "glued to the news", keeping up-to-date with the inferno raging through Pigeon Valley and its surrounding areas.
"With our show coming up, we thought it would be great to be able to offer tickets to some of the people affected by the fires, to give them a really fun day out on us."
Trinity Roots' Warren Maxwell, right, along with his bandmates Rio Hemopo, left, and Ben Wood, says the giveaway is their way of showing the love to the Nelson community. |
Trinity Roots frontman Warren Maxwell said the band was looking forward to catching up with Nelson whanau while visiting for the concert.
"It's been amazing to see everyone pull together and this ticket giveaway is our way of sharing the aroha with the Nelson community."
To nominate someone for a double pass, email nelson@loop.co.nz by midday February 25, with their name and reason for the nomination. Nominees could include volunteers, evacuees or individuals who had to close their business due to the fires.
Successful applicants will receive an email by February 26 with ticket information.
* The John Butler Trio, with Fly My Pretties, Trinity Roots and L.A.B, are performing at the Trafalgar Centre, Nelson on March 2 from 2pm. Remaining tickets for the all-ages concert are on sale now at www.eventfinda.co.nz
