GRiZ has long used his music as a way to address social issues, raising money for LGBTQ organization It Gets Better with his song of the same name, and once again selling out two shows in his native Detroit this past December as part of his annual 12 Days of GRiZMAS charity initiative, which has raised more than $100,000 for Detroit public schools since its inception.
Now, he is taking on gun violence via a new track featuring reggae vocalist and rapper Matisyahu. Out today (Feb. 15), "A New Day" is a bright jam featuring a massive hands-in-the-air hook from GRiZ and Matisyahu on vocals about putting down your bullets and keeping your heads held high. This subject matter may sound counterintuitive to dancing, but the track is nonetheless infectiously sunny.
"A New Day" is the fourth single from GRiZ's forthcoming Ride Waves LP, which also features guest spots from Wiz Khalifa, Snoop Dogg, Bootsy Collins and more. Out April 5, GRiZ will tour behind Ride Waves during his packed spring and summer schedule, which includes sets at Envision, Ultra and Bonnaroo, where he'll lead the festival's much-revered SuperJam.
