Not only are the legendary Fishbonetouring this year, Fishbone singer/saxophonist Angelo Moore is also hitting the road with his band Brand New Step (which includes Claude Coleman Jr of Ween and Hash of Thievery Corporation). That tour begins June 8, and Brand New Step will have a new single, “Pendulum Swings,” out a week before that (6/1). “Pendulum Swings” is a critique of the current state of politics in America, and it’s backed by a cover of an older American protest song, Marvin Gaye’s “Inner City Blues” (ft. Butterscotch). Over an addictive groove, “Pendulum Swings” is a call to arms but it also invites you to get up and dance. The video, which was shot in Japan, shows Angelo and his friends doing just that. It premieres below. Here’s what Angelo tells us about it:
“Pendulum Swings” is my stream of conscious interpretation of our times as we know it.. designed for those who possess the insightful eye.. it lays out the exaggerated culture swing and regression that our government has allowed us to endure from the seemingly good to the horribly absurd – it’s putting words to the eternal battle between good and evil – “halos to nooses”. But with the music, it’s celebratory. See it for what it is and “Let Love Be The Light”. The karma boomerang is coming around for everyone...
As mentioned, Brand New Step’s tour hits NYC on June 16 at Baby’s All Right (tickets). All dates are listed below.
