Steve Hackett says new “Wuthering Nights” concert video and album documents “a really wonderful evening”

Inside Out Music -- Steve Hackett recently released a new concert video and album called Wuthering Nights: Live in Birmingham, which documents a May 2017 show that the ex-Genesis guitarist played at Symphony Hall in Birmingham, England. Speaking with ABC Radio about the concert, Hackett noted, “[I]t’s a great hall. It happened to be a really wonderful evening, with a great crowd.”
The gig was part of Hackett’s solo tour celebrating the 40th anniversary of Wind & Wuthering, the last studio album he recorded with Genesis. The show featured two sets: one focused on material from Hackett’s solo career, and one showcasing Genesis tunes, with a special emphasis on songs from Wind & Wuthering, such as “Afterglow” and “One for the Vine.”
Among the songs played during the first set were three tunes from Steve’s latest solo album, 2017’s The Night Siren. “I wanted to keep up the new stuff as well as keeping the museum doors open for the glorious Genesis exhibits,” Hackett pointed out.
The Genesis portion of the show features lead vocals by Swedish-American singer Nad Sylvan, whose voice is reminiscent of both Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins.
Wuthering Nights: Live in Birmingham is available now as a two-DVD/two-CD set, on Blu-ray and on digital formats.
Meanwhile, Hackett launches the U.S. portion of his latest North American tour on Thursday, February 15, in Staten Island, New York. Hackett tells ABC Radio that the set he’s playing on the current trek features a variety of Genesis gems, including “Dancing with the Moonlit Knight,” “Firth of Fifth” and the epic “Supper’s Ready.” He’s also playing some songs from The Night Siren, as well as his short-lived supergroup GTR‘s 1986 hit “When the Heart Rules the Mind.”
