John Butler makes surprise appearance during concert at Marsascala bar
by The Malta Independent
Renowned artist John Butler made a surprise appearance in a concert at Zion during a show by Nicholas Caruana, also known as Nicky Bomba, last night at the Zion Reggae Bar in Marsascala.
Both artists formed part of the John Butler Trio, an Australian roots and jam band. Caruana had formed part of the band between 2003-04, 2009-13. Butler is still the front man for the John Butler Trio.
Nicky Bomba, who has performed on the island several times, held a gig last night which was advertised on social media. The event poster read that alongside Bomba, there will also be his 'family band and special guests' taking part. However, the 'special guest' was not revealed till late last night, when John Butler discreetly walked on stage, though fans of the artist suspected the 'special guest' may refer to him.
The family are in Malta for family celebrations, and John Butler and his band, accompanied by Nicky Bomba, will soon be travelling off to America for an official tour.
His recordings and live performances have met with critical praise and have garnered awards from the Australian Performing Right Association and Australian Recording Industry Association.
