Bootsy Collins Delivers High Praise For Lettuce
by Gideon Plotnicki
Bootsy Collins is a beacon of funk. His work as the bass player for James Brown in the original version of his band The J.B.‘s, and later as the long-time bass player in foundational outfit Parliament-Funkadelic, has led to some of the most important music across the funk spectrum. When you are getting down to “Get Up (I Feel Like Being a) Sex Machine” or “One Nation Under A Groove”, you are rocking along to Boosty’s inimitable funk magic.
With that in mind, when Bootsy showers praise on another funk band, his suggestion demands attention. When he shouts out our favorite modern funk band Lettuce, it’s cause for celebration! This weekend, when Lettuce stopped by SiriusXM Jam On for an in-studio performance, a fan posted a video of the session in a Facebook group called “Funk”. Bootsy took notice and took the time out of his day to post the video on his personal Facebook page. You can see his post below, and the video that inspired him: a lights-out performance of “Sounds Like A Party To Me” from their 2015 record Crush.
It’s always amazing to receive praise from one of your idols. Coming off a successful new EP release, two hot shows in NYC and a kick-ass tour all-around, one can only imagine that all of the members of Lettuce are riding a wave of excitement and positivity right now! In the immortal words of Boosty himself, “Bootsy Baby!”
