I’m not even going to beat around the bush. If the Hip Hop ABCs had a tournament of champions, my money would be on this week’s winner. Knowledge Reigns Supreme Over Nearly Everybody and that includes the field for the letter K. KRS One simply is Hip Hop.
There are plenty of artists who have sold more records than KRS One, but none of them have more respect from fans and other artists than Lawrence Parker. He will be 50 years old in August but he is still stomping stages worldwide. His ability to deliver memorable performances on stage has allowed him to thrive much longer than his contemporaries.
He has written books on hip hop. He has lectured extensively as part of his efforts to build hip hop culture. The South Bronx native has essentially dedicated his adult life to proving that upper level emceeing has universal value. It is a personal career highlight to have appeared on the same bill as this former Boogie Down Productions frontman. Call me a fan boy if you like, but it is my honor to join you in crowning KRS One as the winner of the Hip Hop ABCs Letter K. Who gets your vote for the Letter L?
