Watch Robert Plant Hand Stephen Colbert a Joint
"For the purposes of my lawyer and the network, this is a cigarette," Stephen Colbert says of the Led Zeppelin singer's gift

Robert Plant stopped by The Colbert Report to perform cuts off his new LP Lullabye and… The Ceaseless Roar – "a concept album about a white noise machine," as host Stephen Colbert called it – and talk about his musical journey and love of William Blake. He also gave Colbert a joint. The lunacy starts when Plant starts running around the stage after being introduced and knocking off his own portable microphone, which Colbert reapplies to the singer's waist. "I never thought I'd start an interview by saying 'I touched Robert Plant's butt,'" Colbert jokes.
After being asked how his "rocktober" has been treating him, Plant says, "It's been so far, so good. I don't know where we came from recently…" and without missing a beat, Colbert replied, "I believe you came from the land of the ice and snow," a nod to the opening lyrics of Led Zeppelin's "Immigrant Song."
The conversation shifts to Plant's musical journey. "My quest is a long one and it has no end. It's a wonderful thing to do and it's surrounded by great people. And I brought you a little present from our stock room," Plant says as he digs into his front shirt pocket and produces what looks like a long, narrow joint. "I think it's one of the accessories of not quite being a knight in the British Empire, but on the way."
Upon receiving the free weed, Colbert asks, "What is that? I'm not… let's find out what this is later, shall we? And for the purposes of my lawyer and the network, this is a cigarette." Colbert then slides the joint in his inner jacket pocket.
"Is there a time when you're not in full Robert Plant-ness? Because right now, I'm still getting the full Robert Plant," Colbert asks the rock god. "Is there a casual Robert Plant in sweatpants and flip-flops walking his dog, maybe with a handful of poop in a plastic bag? Does that exist?" Plant responds, "Backstage at the Fillmore in 1970, I think." Plant reveals though that he does have a dog – "Arthur, the once and future dog" – before seguing into a story about the obscure Arthurian knight Dervele.
In addition to the memorable interview, Plant and the Sensational Space Shifters performed a pair of Lullabye and… tracks, first single "Rainbow" for the TV audience and album opener "Little Maggie" as a web exclusive:
