Adam Lambert opened up about his new EP, Velvet: Side A, in an interview with Bailey Slater for for Rollercoaster's Sprint/Summer 2020 issue, explaining the new era he's entered with regards to his solo music. "With Velvet, I really wanted to turn a corner and go somewhere sonically very different than I had been," the Queen star said. "I kind of wanted to do it on my own terms and not have to compromise with all the creative side of it."
"I just wanted to go about it differently. Everything about this I wanted to be different," Lambert continued.
"I wanted to just change the way I had done it in the past and I figured the two halves would extend the experience more and would allow my fans to come along for a ride."
Velvet: Side A was released back in September, four years after his last album, The Original High.
Lambert also spoke about his musical inspirations, both past and present, saying: "I don't tend to have a set style."

"I always like being inspired by something like my dad's crazy record collection and remembering the stuff that was played around the house.
"I started recognising that some of my favourite contemporary artists that I was listening to were all referencing the past in a really beautiful way and I was inspired by that.
"I love Tame Impala, I think King Princess is super dope," he added. "I love everything that Harry Styles is doing - I'm like, 'Whoa! This is really f***ing cool!'
"This is an artist I like that's sort of doing his own thing, not following a bunch of trends, not getting sucked into people-pleasing, it sounds like he's doing it for himself and I think that's a similar path that I'm on."
Elsewhere, Lambert is part of an ongoing live collaboration with Queen, performing with guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor.
They first performed together when the US star was competing on American Idol back in 2009 and later teamed up as Queen + Adam Lambert.
This month, they will embark on at the Asian leg of their huge Rhapsody Tour, playing a string of shows in Korea and Japan.
Later this year, Queen + Adam Lambert will be bringing the live tour to Europe, with 12 gigs scheduled in the UK.

Last month, Lambert gushed about being part of a project with rock heroes May and Taylor during an appearance on Lorraine.
"We travel together, we dine together, we've been on the road for eight years," he said. "Well, working together for eight years.
"Our first big our was 2014. So, it has been a family. And they don't have to be this way with me," he added,
"If they wanted to dictate exactly what I did and where I went, I would probably be like, 'Yes sirs, anything you want.'
"But what I love, and I'm very flattered by, is they have really taken me into their family and we collaborate on things, share ideas with how these shows look; it's really a team effort.
"And I'm really flattered that they take my thoughts on board.
"They do have veto power, of course!" he quipped.
