Cedric Bixler-Zavala teases the return of The Mars Volta

The band broke up in 2013 after Bixler-Zavala fell out with Omar Rodríguez-López

Cedric Bixler-Zavala has teased a comeback of The Mars Volta.

The band, who formed in 2001 and released six studio albums, broke up in 2013 after founding members Cedric Bixler-Zavala and Omar Rodríguez-López fell out.

But now, Bixler-Zavala has taken to Twitter to tell an adoring fan that the band “will be back soon.”

The Mars Volta formed in 2001 after Cedric Bixler-Zavala and Omar Rodríguez-López’s previous band, At The Drive-In, disbanded.

After releasing six studio albums, including their 2003 debut De-Loused in the Comatorium and most recently Noctourniquet in 2012, the American Progressive rockers announced their spilt, blaming a fall out between the forming members.

Speaking at the time, Bixler-Zavala said: “What am I suppose to do be some progressive house wife that’s cool with watching their partner go fuck other bands? The falling out had been four years in the making, so the final announcement on my part was really just to let the children know that Mom and Dad were splitting up.”

However, a year later the pair were back working together after forming a new group Antemasque.

In 2016, guitarist Rodríguez-López admitted that he’d love to reunite as The Mars Volta during a press tour for an At the Drive-In reunion. He said: “At some point, we’d love to do [Mars Volta] again too. There’s so much to do there as well. Obviously now we’re focused on At the Drive-In and making this record great and touring.”

In 2017, Bixler-Zavala and Rodríguez-López reunited as part of an At the Drive-In reunion and new LP in•ter a•li•a. Later this month, Bixler-Zavala and Rodríguez-López will be hitting the road together for further At the Drive-In reunion dates, with the band also confirming festival dates for the summer.
