Like a bolt out of the blue and also as a thank you to fans, we have an unexpected new Public Enemy album to cherish, hot off the heels of Chuck D’s recently released solo album Radio Armageddon. With Black Sky Over The Projects, Public Enemy yet again show they are still formidable with some serious clout when it comes to lyrically addressing social and political issues that just refuse to go away and die. Take protest track March Madness or Ageism as prime examples on show here.

As for the beats, they’re as brutal as a Rottweiler relentlessly barking in the early hours, and neither have the PE collective lost any of their bite since the late-80s/early 90s glory days of It Takes A Nation Of Millions… and Fear Of A Black Planet. Nor is there any empty posturing with Black Sky Over The Projects. Are Public Enemy still the best rap crew on this planet? Damn right they are.
