The new Neil Young tribute album Heart of Gold: The Songs of Neil Young Vol 1 is out today, and proceeds from the album will benefit The Bridge School. If you’ve been keeping up with the pre-release singles, you’ve already heard the tracks from Courtney Barnett, Eddie Vedder, Stephen Marley, The Lumineers, and Chris Pierce, and today we get to hear some of the others we’ve been anticipating, like Fiona Apple‘s take on the iconic “Heart of Gold” and Sharon Van Etten‘s cover of “Here We Are In The Years,” a deeper cut from Neil’s 1968 self-titled debut album. Both are genuinely gorgeous renditions that find Sharon and Fiona leaving their marks on the songs while staying faithful to the classic originals.
