Aussie rapper Briggs has gone back to his roots with the creation of new hardcore act BIG NOTER.
Taking influence from Ice T’s Body Count and similar hardcore rap acts from the early ‘90s, Briggs reached out to engineerNick Didia (Rage Against The Machine, Pearl Jam, Bruce Springsteen) to help produce BIG NOTER’s debut single ‘IDENTITY’ – a hard-hitting dose of rock riffs merged with Briggs’ signature socially conscious raps.
“People might be surprised, but this is where I’m most at home; this is the sound I was raised on,” Briggs explains.
Gearing up for BIG NOTER’s first live shows supporting guitar guru Tom Morello in Melbourne and Sydney this month, Briggs will be joined on stage by a live band consisting of Leigh Davies on guitar, Craig Strain on bass and Steve Smith behind the kit.
BIG NOTER gives proud Yorta-Yorta/Wurundjeri/Wemba-Wemba man Briggs the opportunity to showcase another side of his musical palette that’s been hinted at on recent releases such as ‘Munarra’ and ‘Ballad of the GOATs’.
An explosive force in the Australian hip hop scene for the past 15 years, Shepparton-born Briggs has released two solo albums, founded rap duo A.B. Original with good friend and producer Trials, and performed alongside some of the biggest names in the game, including Ice Cube, KRS-ONE, Ghostface Killah and Pharoahe Monch.
The release of ‘IDENITY’ marks a new direction for Briggs, with a BIG NOTER album said to be coming soon.
