Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith recently spoke to Billboard and shared details about the upcoming RHCP record creation process. The famous musician also recalled their time working on 'Unlimited Love' and 'Return of the Dream Canteen.'

Following six years of a break after 'The Getaway,' the RHCP members finally started working on their new record, 'Unlimited Love.' They dropped two singles, 'Black Summer' and 'These Are the Ways,' before dropping the album on April 1, 2022. It received positive reviews from critics and rock music lovers, and many celebrated the return of the original guitarist John Frusciante, who reunited with the band in 2019, replacing Josh Klinghoffer.

Shortly after the release, the band surprised the fans when they announced their new thirteenth studio album, 'Return of the Dream Canteen,' which will be released on October 14, 2022. The first track from the record, 'Tippa My Tongue,' became available on August 19, 2022. In his interview, Smith revealed that the new project was a combination of several styles and Parliament-Funkadelic's George Clinton and Jimi Hendrix influenced them.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer said they were in a room focusing on the songs without any deadline and ended up recording them all. Smith revealed that they usually create more than they should and end up not using them, but RHCP finished all of them this time and decided to release another studio album without waiting for a long time.

Smith said in his interview the following:

"There's a lot of different things in there. To me, it's got a bunch of hooks in it. It's got P-Funk in it. I hear George Clinton in it and some Hendrix kind of licks. It's a nice gumbo. I thought that would be a good first cone from that album. It sounds like us, but new. I think that's cool. We want to leave them wanting less, it was the four of us in a room, and we wrote a bunch of music and wrote and wrote with no time constraints and ended up recording all these songs.

We always record more than what comes out on a record, but often they get left in the vault or unfinished or whatever. But we finished them all. We felt we had too many good songs not to put out another record. It's not like a B-sides record or anything like that. Everything felt good and right, so it's all good."
