Queen's Roger Taylor is the new patron of Cornwall Pride

Rock star Roger Taylor has become Patron of Cornwall Pride, the organisation that celebrates and promotes tolerance and acceptance of the LGBT community in the county.

The Queen drummer, who was brought up in Truro, attended Truro School and had his first taste of playing in bands in Cornwall, said: "I'm so proud to be associated with Cornwall Pride – it looks like August 27 is going to be a wonderful and fun day. Have great time! Onwards and upwards."

Cornwall Pride returns on August 27 for a full day of fun, frolics and entertainment with three events occurring throughout the day following the official opening by the Mayor of Truro, Rob Nolan, on Lemon Quay at 11am.

The parade of one of the UK's largest rainbow flags wends its way through the streets of Truro to Victoria Gardens for the Picnic in the Park, an afternoon of free entertainment with stalls and food, games and raffles – this is a family event and open to all.

At 7pm the Pride Party begins back in the marquee on the piazza with an evening of entertainment for all and a full licensed bar – hosting once again this year amid a flurry of costume changes, dancing and singing will be Truro's very own burlesque diva Roxie Moron.

This year's entertainment is a great mix of local and national talent opening with harmony duo A Little Twisted who made such an impact in the park last year they have been asked to appear on this year's main stage. The girls will be followed by Cornwall's very own Queen tribute band The Good Old Fashioned Lover Boys, no doubt be camping it up with the best of them.

Then there is something for lovers of all things smooth as Tom Carey presents The Best of Bublé.

Hi-NRG dance diva Hazell Dean, a massive attraction at many a Pride, makes a welcome return to Cornwall playing a set of her '80s dance hits including Searchin (I Gotta Find A Man), Whatever I Do (Wherever I Go), Who's Leaving Who and many more.

1980s pop star Hazel Dean returns to Cornwall on August 27.

The whole evening will be held together by DJ Adam Lewis, a big hit at Pride last year, who will end the evening and keep you dancing with a full DJ set especially put together for this year's event. From there he will be whisked over to the Barley Sheaf for the Official Pride After Party to keep everyone dancing into the early hours.

Tickets for the main event are £15 on the door where you can also collect your free wristband for the After Party (limited numbers so first come-first
served).
