"Hey, great job with Kiss up there man!" Peter Gabriel told Tom Morello backstage at Brooklyn's Barclays Center on Thursday shortly after Gabriel was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Gabriel sat down for a quick five-minute interview about the honor, his next album and the remote possibility of a Genesis reunion.

20 best moments from the 2014 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction

How does it feel now that you're inducted?
I’m very relieved. I was very happy to be first on so I could relax and have a glass of wine and enjoy the evening.

When Genesis were inducted, you couldn't make it.
We were two days before the tour started so it was just impossible. Being here is much better.

Do you have a favorite moment from the whole experience?
Well, I think learning you’re being inducted is a good moment and it was very nice what Chris [Martin] said. I appreciated that. I grew up with a lot of these people and their music, so it’s good to feel part of that community.

Is it a chance to reflect on how far you've come?
Getting awards is nature's way of saying you're getting old, so you can get a little more reflective. There are very few good things about getting old except you care less about what people think.

You're working on your first studio album since 2002's Up. How's it going?
Slowly, as it usually goes for me. I get distracted. But I have technology and a few benefit projects at the moment that keep me going. I'm itching to get back to more writing.

What's you're favorite thing you've seen backstage?
Bruce was good! That was a nice moment. We have a place in Sardinia and we heard that he’d come by in David Geffen's boat. I’d love him to come have a meal.

What's your life at home like on the English countryside?
I do the school run in the morning and then try to get something done. On a good day, I'll go to the gym and try to do some music and quite often meetings. I try to have as much of a family life as I can.

You haven't played with Genesis since 1982. Is a reunion a possibility in the future?
I never say never. It really didn’t happen last time. I think there’s a small chance, but I don't think it’s very high.
