Dub FX + Mr. Woodnote & CAde @Gretchen - 11/04/23

And what should I say: Once again an absolutely great evening - a fantastic concert.

Last year I had to skip Dub FX in the summer because of vacation and this year I was so excited with the hope of no cancelation but this was not neccassary. The gig was moved from Huxleys to Gretchen but no problem et all. I invited my daughter to come with me and we had a wonderful time.

My daughter and I decited to go there pretty early so that we would find a good place to stay. So when we arrived less people were there and we found a good spot not far from the stage by a pillar where we waited for the begin. And I hoped that also Mr. Woodnote would be part of the band.

So at 8:15 pm the hall was filled pretty well by the audience and it wouldn't be long before the concert started

Lettuce @Lido - 09/23/25

The first time for me to see Lettuce.

I didn't know them before and only became aware of them because I read several music articles and watched videos of them. Great funk music, and then I saw that they were playing in Berlin—so off I went.

I was there short before they should start to perform. After ordering some beer I went to the left side of the concerthall where you could sit on some leather seats - maybe 30cm high and 1m deep. The hall was 2/3 filled but when Lettuce started to play at 8:15 pm more people were coming in and it was getting a nice evening with grooving psychadelic funkbeats and horns

Rodgau Monotones @Antreffhalle - 10/25/25

Jethro Tull @ Tempodrom - Berlin(DE)

Jethro Tull @Tempodrom - 11/09/25

Already in February I ordered two tickets for Jethro Tull at the Tempodrom and I found wonderful seats for my wife and me in the upper part in front of the stage. Info: All tickets were for seats.

The show should start at 7pm so we arrived there 30 Min before. We ordered two beers and were going to our seats. Just before the show an offline voice gave us the info that Ian Anderson and the Band didn’t want the audience to make videos or pictures during the show until the encore. Okay!?

After this the show began immediately and the artists came on the stage - Ian Anderson at the end. He said ‘Hello’ and introduced the first song which was from their first record in 1968. It was a little bit blues-like and he was playing harmonica. At the big canvas were shown special pictures or videos for any song.

Dub FX & Woodnote feat. Prezence & Alais Clay @ Gretchen - Berlin(DE)

Dub FX & Woodnote feat. Prezence & Alais Clay
@Gretchen - 11/20/25

My absolute highlight so far this year.

Dub FX is a phenomenon. I am always amazed at how he manages to captivate the audience so quickly that you always leave his concerts feeling positive, even though you have completely exhausted yourself.

As he did two years ago, he performed at Gretchen together with Woodnote. This time, the guests were Alais Clay and Prezence (never heard of them before).

The show was scheduled to start at 8 p.m., so I arrived about 20 minutes early. Gretchen was still relatively empty, so I grabbed a drink and took a seat at the edge of the room.

And sure enough, the concert started shortly after 8 p.m.

Mother’s Finest @ Metropol - Berlin(DE)

Mother’s Finest @Metropol - 12/01/25

I have seen Mother's Finest for the first time and maybe it was also for the last time.

But let's start at the beginning. Last year, I missed their sold-out concert here in Berlin, and when I saw that they were coming back this year, I immediately ordered a ticket.

The concert took place at the Metropol (my last concert there was in 1997).

OK, last Monday was the day. Shortly before 8 p.m., I arrived at the Metropol (it was relatively full, but still manageable).

With two drinks in hand, I made my way to the front of the stage (2nd row) and waited for the concert to begin.

The concert was supposed to start at 8 p.m., but Mother's Finest took more than half an hour before they came on stage, appropriate to their age, but then they really got going.

The audience was very enthusiastic (the Metropol was now well filled with about 500 people).

At first, I thought the sound was poorly mixed (Baby Jean was hard to hear). Over the time, it got better, or maybe I just got used to it.

Many of the original Mother's Finest line-up from the 1970s were still there. In addition to front woman Joyce ‘Baby Jean’ Kennedy and co-founder and life partner Glenn “Doc” Murdock, Gary ‘Moses Mo’ Moore and Jerry ‘Wyzard’ Seay from the early days were also there. John ‘Red Devil’ Hayes (a member since 1992) was also noticeable on guitar, playing many solos. Dion Derek Murdock (if I am correctly informed, the son of Baby Jean and Doc) was on drums. At the back left of the stage were two backing singers, whose names I unfortunately did not retain.

They played many of their hits – sometimes letting the audience sing along on their own – and Baby Jean repeatedly encouraged the crowd to join in with her good humour.

In between, I got myself a beer and then stood at the back by the mixing desk when they played Baby Love. Shortly after that, it was already over. One of the shortest concerts I've ever seen. Strangely enough, the audience didn't demand an encore and happily made their way to the exit.

Side note: Doc wanted to introduce the next song — I think it was Magic Carpet Ride — with a little story, but he quickly forgot what he wanted to say and broke off the story.

All in all, despite its brevity and poor acoustics, it was a great concert.
