Bootsy Collins Collaborator Alissia Drops Bass-Heavy ‘Get Away’ Track & Video

Talented bassist and funk-soul revivalist Alissia has been making waves behind the scenes for the past several years now, both for her instrumental prowess and her fresh take on classic groove stylings, both as a collaborator and bandleader in her own right. Now, she returns with a new track and video, "Get Away," and a new title: producer.

The video, shot in New York City and directed by Bo Mirosseni, follows the multi-instrumentalist as she walks across the Williamsburg Bridge and takes the J train through north Brooklyn, with the song's bass-centric, head-nodding groove and catchy vocal refrain underlining the visuals. The track is written and produced by Alissia.

Over the past few years, Alissia has worked with the likes of Q-Tip, Khalid, Anderson .Paak and Havoc of Mobb Deep. And this Friday, Bootsy Collins is set to release his first album in six years, World Wide Funk, on which she contributed bass, keyboards and/or production to five tracks, including the star-studded "Bass Rigged System," where she joins icons like Victor Wooten, Stanley Clarke, Manou Gallo and Bootsy himself (on his SuperBass) on the low end for the sub-woofer-rattling cut.

"Working with Bootsy has been an incredible journey and definitely a challenge to push myself harder every day," she said in a press release about collaborating with the P-Funk legend, who she said bestowed upon her the nickname "Baby-Z." "Definitely one of the most inspiring projects I have worked on."

Alissia first started to gain a following while at Berklee, having racked up 4.1 million views on her 2013 live video "Let It Out." Billboard premiered her video for "On the Go" in 2015; at the time, she was leading a 14-piece band. She's also spoke about resisting the music industry's attempts to push her into the mainstream pop realm: "I like being in the background," she said. "It's not about me, it's about the music."
