NEAR WEST SIDE — Queen guitarist Brian May used a selfie stick to film the crowd at United Center last week, with fans roaring as the image was shown on a large screen.

"The thing about selfie sticks is that they're really not, I guess, for taking pictures of yourself. That's not what they're for. What they're for is going someplace with someone you love, people you love and some place that you love and you want to immortalize it...right?" he said to the crowd.

In 2015, he filmed the crowd in Rio De Janeiro using a GoPro Hero camera mounted on a selfie stick, telling the 80,000 attendees it could be "the biggest selfie stick moment in the whole universe."

From his Twitter page, the 69-year-old, who holds a doctorate in astrophysics, said he became intrigued with the "selfie stick culture" in 2014.

The Queen + Adam Lambert Show at the United Center show earned rave reviews, with the Sun-Times calling it "ferocious."
