Hear Peter Gabriel’s Muhammad Ali-Inspired New Song ’I’m Amazing’

Track is first original composition from Gabriel since 2013's "Why Don't You Show Yourself"

Peter Gabriel wrote a new song "I'm Amazing," which was partly inspired by the life and struggles of the late boxer Muhammad Ali.

It’s the age of surprise releases, and Peter Gabriel wants in. The singer posted a GIF on Twitter Wednesday revealing new single artwork. BBC Radio 6 debuted the over seven-minute song "I'm Amazing" on Thursday. "Look at me, look at me, can you see what I can do?" Gabriel sings. "'Cause I'm amazing."

The prog-rock star explained the story behind the track in a short post on Facebook. "I wrote a song a few years back – 'I'm Amazing,' which was, in part, inspired by Muhammad Ali's life and struggles," Gabriel wrote. "At the time of his death, when so many people are celebrating his life and thinking about all he achieved, it seemed the right time to release it."

The track's caption on the singer's official YouTube page refers to "I'm Amazing" as "the first new composition from Peter to be released since the track 'Why Don't You Show Yourself' featured in the film Back to Front: Live in London in 2013." Gabriel gave Rolling Stone an update on his new material in 2014. "I’m trying to do some happy stuff," he said at the time. "It's very easy for me to fall into some moody stuff. I wanna do something that's more dance-y, and more like an organic dance record. I've got a couple of songs I've been working on the last two weeks that I think are beginning to go in that direction."
